In May 2010, the quartet received worldwide buzz for its YouTube video "Lady Gaga Saga".  The medley of tunes was blogged by the Baltimore Sun and tweeted by such classical heavyweights as the Aspen Music Festival and Naxos USA.   The video's popularity landed the quartet on the front cover "De Fagot," the Dutch Bassoon Society magazine, as well as on the list "Top Five Viral Videos of 2010," published by New York City's classical radio station WQXR.

BWBQ aim to entertain and educate a broad, ever-expanding audience.  They have established an active web presence and regularly add new performance videos to their Youtube channel.  They also work to enrich the western New York community through their performances--most recently, with school tours in the Rochester and Buffalo areas.  BWBQ aim to spread the utter joy of music while maintaining their dedication to artistry of the highest degree.

Formed in 2008 in Rochester, New York, the Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet are serious about fun music.  Members Brittany Harrington, Yuki Katayama, Kara LaMoure, and Lauren Yu met while studying bassoon at the Eastman School of Music under John Hunt.  The group's untraditional instrumentation allows them to creatively blend classical music with comedy and popular culture.  The BWBQ are committed to performing original music and arrangements, most of which they write themselves.  Dancing, skits, drumming, and the use of props are hallmarks of BWBQ performances.

From their first recital, which was modeled after the classic work of the Bubonic Bassoon Quartet, to their recent projects, which have incorporated popular music and choreography, the BWBQ has kept these constant: their love for the bassoon, their sense of humor, their commitment to education, and their penchant for performance.
