BWBQ x JOHN STEINMETZ
The Breaking Winds is teaming up with composer John Steinmetz to create a brand new, multi-movement bassoon quartet, premiering in summer 2027. We’re inviting bassoonists from around the world to join the consortium and help bring this new work to the bassoon quartet repertoire. Together, we’ll celebrate everything we love about the genre and our instrument—with groove, soul, and, of course, a healthy dose of humor!

CONCERT PROGRAMS
The repertoire of the Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet consists of transcriptions, arrangements, and compositions by the four members of the group. Each concert provides a window into our world—what we’ve been listening to and how we want to twist it.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
The BWBQ engages audiences of all ages via artistry, jokes, theatrics, and conversation. We strive for a culture of interaction, not simply passive listening.

The Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet is an artist-run creative project. Their repertoire disregards genre and is adapted for the ensemble by its members. Known for their stage antics, The BWBQ use choreography, accessory instruments, props, and skits to add theatrical elements to their performances.
The ensemble’s mission is threefold:
To create meaningful bonds with audiences
To expand the scope of bassoon performance
To navigate the intersection of classical music, pop culture, and comedy
