Can you believe John Steinmetz hasn’t written a bassoon quartet? WE CAN’T EITHER, and it’s time to rectify that.
We’re thrilled to announce a consortium of bassoonists worldwide to commission John for a new multi-movement bassoon quartet, premiering summer 2027.
We at the BWBQ felt like it was time to usher in a substantial piece for the quartet repertoire, and we knew that John Steinmetz was the composer to do it. We admire his gorgeous music and deep understanding of what makes bassoonists tick. The new work will honor our favorite qualities of the bassoon quartet genre and the people who play our instrument: some groove, some soul, and (need it even be said?) a healthy dose of humor.
We ask that each commissioner contribute $200 to the consortium. A commissioner can be anything: an individual, an ensemble, a studio, etc. And if you would like to split the fee with a colleague, or two or three, that is most welcome – just indicate in the form how you would like the commission to be credited.
