Terms & Conditions
Thank you for your interest in joining The Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet’s consortium to commission a new bassoon quartet by composer John Steinmetz!
We are thrilled to bring bassoonists, studios, ensembles, and bassoon enthusiasts together to help create a substantial new work for the bassoon quartet repertoire. Before submitting your contribution, please review the following terms.
1. Consortium Contribution
Each consortium participation is $200 USD.
A commissioner may be an individual, ensemble, studio, school, organization, or other group. Multiple individuals may jointly contribute one $200 commission fee. If a contribution is shared, the individuals or organizations will receive one collective commissioning credit, with the names/crediting requested on the registration form.
2. What Your Contribution Includes
Each $200 consortium contribution includes:
- Recognition as a commissioner of the new work
- Commissioning credit in the score and/or associated published materials, as determined by the composer/publisher
- A print copy of the completed score and instrumental parts
- An exclusivity period of performance of the work: only commissioning ensembles may perform the work for one year following the world premiere date
- Recognition of participating commissioners in BWBQ promotional materials related to the commission
3. The Commission
The consortium will commission John Steinmetz to create a new, multi-movement work for bassoon quartet.
The specific title, number of movements, duration, structure, musical content, and other artistic details will be determined by the composer in consultation with The Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet. The description of the work in promotional materials represents the current concept for the commission and may evolve as the work develops.
The composer retains artistic control over the composition and is not obligated to incorporate specific musical requests from individual commissioners.
4. Premiere
The Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet intends to debut the premiere performance in summer 2027.
The anticipated premiere date and location are subject to change based on the composer’s schedule, the quartet’s schedule, venue availability, and other circumstances. Participation in the consortium does not guarantee an individual commissioner a premiere performance.
Additional performances by commissioners and other ensembles are encouraged once the work is available.
5. Copyright & Ownership
John Steinmetz retains copyright and ownership of the musical composition, unless otherwise established through a separate written agreement.
Participation in the consortium does not constitute a transfer of copyright, publishing rights, or ownership of the composition to individual commissioners or the consortium as a whole.
Performance, copying, recording, publication, licensing, and other uses of the work will be subject to the terms established by the composer and/or publisher.
6. Commissioning Credit
Commissioners will be credited using the name(s) submitted through the registration form. Please carefully review your preferred commissioning credit before submitting your registration.
The BWBQ and/or composer may make reasonable formatting or editorial adjustments to commissioning credits for consistency in the score, program materials, website, and other publications.
7. Promotional Recognition
With participation in the consortium, commissioners agree that their names, ensemble names, studio names, or organizational names may be listed as supporters/commissioners of the project in materials related to the commission.
Commissioners who prefer not to have their names publicly listed may indicate this on the registration form.
8. Contribution & Cancellation
Consortium contributions are considered non-refundable once the commission has been formally contracted, except in the event that the commission is canceled and the funds cannot reasonably be applied to the originally intended project.
If the minimum funding necessary to proceed with the commission is not reached, the BWBQ will notify participants and provide information regarding the disposition or refund of contributions.
9. Changes to the Project
The BWBQ and composer reserve the right to make reasonable changes to the timeline, premiere arrangements, publication plans, or other aspects of the project as circumstances require.
Every effort will be made to communicate significant changes to consortium participants in a timely manner.
